When ever I open a picture in my Photoshop program it makes the picture orangish when it opens. What the heck is this? How can I fix this. Should I give a link for an example of what I am talking about? Thanks.

For right now, I'm needing to get either Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro for budget reasons. I'm familiar with them because I've done the trials for different versions before on each.

It seems to me that one program will have something the other doesn't have. For instance, PSP seems to have more specific controls for text effects, where as PS is pre-loaded and seem to be limiting. But there are other things as well.

For those of you out there, which do you prefer between these two programs?

Forget Adobe for the time being. Type in Google Earth and take the free download for Picasa2, Very user friendly. Then you s

hould be able to find a free download on the interenet or at any Public Library for Arc Soft Photo Studio Version 5.5 which is as good as Adobe (for free).
If you dont need the full professional version, Adobe sells Photoshop Elements for about 90 bucks which gives you basic photo editing capabilities.

There's also a free open source program called Gimp that is well worth looking into.

Other than that, eBay is the only place that comes to mind...you could get an older version and save some $$$

create a new document at maybe 7x7 pixels or any size as long as its small make sure your image background is transparent and then zoom in to as far as you can go and get your pencil tool and in what ever color, in the top left hand corner click there and work your way down towards the right bottom hand corner, when done go click on edit and go down to define pattern and that will be saved for you to use later on, when you create a banner or whatever when in your blending options or layer style you can use that pattern overlay to repeat in any image and text or whatever you so desire.

Simple get started by ofcourse drawing out the normal rectangle using the rectangle tool. Go to the WINDOW (on the toolbar) drop down menu and check the ''styles'' pallette. Once styles pallette is part of you photoshop window, click the small arrow on the top right corner of the pallette and youll get a drop down menu with all different styles, select the last one on the bottom-''web styles.'' Once the web styles are aprt of the pallette, on the web styles goto the style named TUXEDO (its not titled, but ull see the title if you have your mouse over it, found on the 4th row of the web styles pallette. Youll get a white bacground with lines, since you want a green one, from the LAYERS pallette double click on the icon that looks like an F and change the color (color overlay) once you get the FX window.

I recently purchased Adobe Photoshop CS3 and am wondering if there has been a change from CS2 (or any other version, for that matter) concerning the anti-alias function on the custom-shape tool. All of the shapes I'm making are coming out with VERY rough edges... and the anti-alias tool just seems to make them worse.

Go to the image menu and choose image size. Make sure you have the resample image box checked. Enter 320 into the height box. If your width is not 240 pixels uncheck contrain proportions and enter that into the width box. Press ok. Do

File/Save for Web. In the settings box make sure JPEG is the file type. It will show you the size of the picture below the preview. If the picture is to large decrease the quality. I have a feeling it will be under 63kb even on the highest quality setting.

go to image/image size and a box pops up and you put in the size you want and click ok. you may have to uncheck the constraint box.

Its pretty simple, really. File -%26gt; Save as and then browse to ''My Pictures''.

If PS 2.0, you will have to be attempting to open so will the image open? Sometimes Windows Explorer gets itself messed up and will not show jpeg images. Are you saving as a jpeg image? You can save the picture as jpg, tiff, psd, gif, or a number of other ways. Jpg is probably best for you. If you have layers in the picture and just do a ''Save as'' to give it a name, then it is saving as a psd file. PSD files will not display in Windows Explorer. PSD files will display, as well as all other formats, in the Open window of PS2.0.
If it's not giving you the option to save here you can save it to the desktop and then drag and drop the icon to your pictures folder.

I will pass on the use of two different programs to make changes in your images, but basically, if you save your changes as a different file name, that image file should print ... not the original.

C, but it's not used to reduce the size, necessarily. It just merges all of the layers together. Also, it's actually reversible through undo. Neither A, B nor D make any sense and are not functions of Photoshop.

I'm not sure what kind of brushes you're looking for, but you can try angryblue.com for splatter brushes. The files you will be looking for are .abr files. Save them in a location you can remember.

In photoshop, in the drop down panel where you choose the brush size and shape, click on the small arrow and select Load Brushes. Find your .abr file and open it.

Photoshop Elements is only $100 and has most of the features you would want. GIMP is free and can most Photoshop tricks but is much harder to get use to. PhotoFiltre is free and can do most Photoshop effects except that it doesn't support layers.

There are cheaper but not better things. Adobe has a long history in the business and has contributed many things which even some freeware uses. Photoshop is really a sophisticated product in every sense of the word. I'm a Linux user so you would expect me to use gimp. In reality I was very excited when I heard Wine should now run photoshop because I'm tired of driving fifty miles each way to rent a computer with Photoshop on it. Which I do.

I downloaded the gimp software to be able to photoshop. I heard that it's really good, and often times layout sites use it for their default pictures. I see layout site default pics, and they are REALLY pretty, and look REALLY professional. There are all sorts of backgrounds, fonts, and other things on it. But i want to know how to do it. how do you put the background behind your image?

And if you made a logo, then how do you drag it wherever you want? I tried it, but it wont let me drag it. Instead, it just makes me paint all over the face instead of moving it.

- Open photo

- Zoom in untill you just have one eye on frame.

- Choose Poligonal Lasso selecting tool from vertical tool box.

- Select with lasso the red area. Depending on area covered reconstruct red are by selcting the corresponding eye color/s with color selector and paint it in with brushes. if there was reflection in the eye paint white reflection too.

- Apply Gaussian brull 0,7-1,2 to selected area.

-Same then to other eye.

It takes some time this way but results are better than with any automatic system.

You can try the GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) as an open source alternative. However, I warn you, it's no where near as good as Photoshop at the moment (still has problems with CMYK colour), and UI is nightmarish.

In fact, all it has over photoshop is the fact that it's free. I wouldn't recommend it on any professional-quality jobs, but it's fine as a simple program to mess around with.

My letterhead set up in CS3 photoshop has changed!!?

Last year I made 3 different letterhead for me in Photoshop CS2. They were A4 paper size ( 210x290cm), Resolution 72 which I saved on a CD.

I have CS3 now and when I tried to open my TIF files from last year...everything regarding the image size had changed. The resolution is 300, the height and width size of the page has changed too. When I try to take a print I loose some texts and the lower part of the page. I opened the page set up and changed the setting to A4 size paper, I changed the resolution to 72 again but I got the same result!!

Next I tried to make a new page in Photoshop to make a new headletter of what I had from the previous year using the A4 paper size for page set up and again when I try to print it out on A4 paper I lost some info meaning the page in my Photoshop with all the correct numbers for a A4 size paper turns out to be too big for the A4 paper!!! Pls help I need my letterheads:(( Tnks

The page setup of Photoshop doesn't set the document's page size, just the printer's PAPER size.

Unfortunately you just set the size of your paper, and depending on how the previous photoshop handled out-of-paper documents by default and on how it remembered previous set ups, you used to have the somewhat expected result every day.

It seems like your new photoshop version/settings don't work the same way than last year and your document is not fit on page as last year.

Use the menu image / image size for all size/resolution properties.

I've looked for tutorials, but the only one I could find is ''Adobe Indesign'' that has a simple to use bleed option. I don't see it on these programs as far as I know. (Just bought them tho)

All they're saying is that they need an extra 1/8'' ALL the way around the artwork - this will get trimmed off or removed. It's NOT just adding 1/8''. Add 2/8'' to each dimension to get the right size and then drag a rule to 1/8'' of each edge of the document to stop important stuff going over. Make sure the general background goes into this space though.

Photoshop requires a registry entry to work, so you actually have to install it for it to work on a computer. Even if you installed it and then reinstalled windows, you cat use it even though all the files are exactly the same.

You cannot install it from anything but a cd or a iso image.
to install you must use .exe file
it would normally be called either set-up.exe or install.exe

Your best bet is probably to go to add remove programs in your controll pannel then windows should detect the correct file to start install

if it's very small it gets pixelated when you zoom in (that's what you mean unclear i guess).

I'm afraid you can't do many things with small pictures, not only in photoshop but in any picture processing software.

Try to enlarge it a bit: go to Image %26gt; Image Size... then type

a new width and height figure a couple of hundred above the figures it says, hit ok and see what happens. For sure the image won't be crisp, but it's the best you can do at this stage.

Always try to get the largest images possible, with small images you cannot do anything really.

In that case, you can't resize it without losing the quality. Each pixel has its individual color, and hence when resized it will become blocky.

It should default to its own folder (c:\program files\Adobe\photoshope) when you click on the file you downloaded. You can, however, extract it to a different folder that you choose by clicking on the browse folder before you start to install.

If the file is compressed, and you want to know where to actually decompress the file, create a folder for it, like C:\Photoshop, extract the file there, then go into that folder after the extraction, and install the program, which will default to the above folder. Both the compressed file, and the setup folder can then be deleted.

You can get an older version of Adobe Photoshop Elements (version 2-ish) on eBay, for a good price. You have to be careful--look for something specificially listed as new, unused, and able to be registered.
There's a program similar to photoshop that is free called the gimp. It's at http://gimp.org .
You might consider Photoshop Elements 5 (or 4). These can go for less than $50 on Ebay. Restoring old photos is well within the capabilities of Elements.
its a good idea for buying ps 5.0 that pretty old but most of the editing work is done in ps 5 since if u know ps well ...then u can understand this... in the history tool bar in ps 5.0 its stores around 100 steps whereas in ps 7.0 and CS its store 20 only. therefore most of the editing work is done in ps 5.0 and ending work in CS . if u have any questions on restoring and making black%26white pics to color feel free to as me....

It really depends what you want to do with the graphics editor. If you plan on editing photographs only, Photoshop is what you want. If you want to make graphics, either one is good ~ they are different but both are good. If you want to design websites, although either one will do, PS is better, most designers use both. Also better of you plan on scrapbooking. With both, you can use animation shop and plug in filters ... if cost is a factor go with corel. Download a trial version of one, when the trial period is over download the trial of the other. The only way is to decide for yourself which is better, which one does more of what you want to do

I have never used corel paint shop but I am very happy with the professional results I get with Adobe.....It takes time to learn and a tutorial is extremely helpful. I bought a tutorial and never looked back with regret. 90 percent of the pros use Adobe Photoshop. It will take a little effort to learn the program but you will be extremely happy with the results you get...in many instances you will be amazed. Not everyone is an art pro but you can become one using the Adobe program.

Do you mean it is writing text vertically (top to bottom) instead of horizontally (up down)? That would mean that you have your tool set to the Vertical text tool. Go to your text tool and drag it out (click and hold) then choose the first/default text tool, and read the tooltip to be sure you are selecting the right one.

You have to click Save For Web (not save as) and save it as a gif, jpeg, or png. Then you can upload that file to photobucket. You won't be able to upload the psd file since that's the only file you have that lets you alter the original image and all of the text or whatever you added.

If you're downloading the program, then you should be on Adobe's site. When you download this program, or any program, you are prompted to select a location for the folder to be placed. Wherever you've chosen to put it, it should appear there. Then, there should be some sort of set up file like with any other downloaded program. Run the set up and you should be good to go. You can choose to have a desktop shortcut created, or make it a start menu item. YOu should then be able to run the program from these locations. I have been using The GIMP for over 2 years now, it's very nice and all but it lacks a lot of the ability to create a lot of more modern crisp graphics.

I like GIMP a ton so don't get me wrong, it's very good but not for someone who is trying to do web design.

I have tried playing around with photoshop but I can't get the desired effect, I am getting it to look too heavy instead of delicate. I have adjusted print quality too, I don't know what else to do??

Hi, First go to ''Image Size'' and change the resolution to something higher like say 300

Then what I would do is create a new layer and then create a new path from the paths tab.

Use that path to trace over the original image (or a section of the image) using the pen tool and then click on the brush tool. Select a small brush (like a 5 or something) and go to your layers tab and select the new blank layer you created earlier. Then go back to the paths tab and click ''stroke path..''

You will end up with a copy of your original image in your new layer but it will not be as pixilated.

You can then use the blur tool and eraser tool to soften the edges. Hope that is of some use!

One more thing! It could just be that your printer settings need adjusting? Can you print at a higher quality setting?

i downloaded like over 1000 brushes for my photoshop CS3 but everytime i shut down my computer and i turn it back up again they aren't there. fortunately i save them as a file and can load them again but i don't want to keep doing that everyday so what can i do to make them stay!!! please help.!!!

The only thing I can think of is how you shut down the computer. Make sure Photoshop completely shuts off, perhaps give it a few minutes after the screen is gone to completely clear. I know that if you Force Quit photoshop, End the Process or Force Shut Down the computer all of the brushes disappear.

Your original background layer, even though it's black and white needs to be in a color mode if it's not already. Use Image/Mode/RGB Color to change it if necessary. If the background actually has some color in it, get rid of it by using Image/Adjustments/Desaturate.

Now just add layers with whatever colors you want on top of the background.

Last I checked, if you download the photoshop 3 month trial, you get ImageReady for free (ImageReady won't deactivate after 3 months) and many people draw anime with ImageReady even if they have Photoshop.

Photoshop is more for photo editing and manipulation. Illustrator mentioned above is designed for drawing. You have way more options to draw than with photoshop. If you have the money, get the package deal - Creative suite. In any case, it will take a while to learn if you haven't used it before. Adobe products are the professional software. I'm sure there are more cost effective illustration programs if you're not looking to get into all that detail.

All Adobe have 30-day trials, so download them all and see what works best... Adobe.com if that wasn't obvious...

They are simply endorsing a specific burning program. In most cases, any image-burning software should be able to burn the file to a CD / DVD.

A psd should work fine from a photoshop 9.0 to a 7.0. Simply because it's the same program only upgraded/updated.

As long as you don't use any of the more advanced features you should be fine (adjustment layers spring to mind). However to play it safe instead of saving it as a psd file you can save it as a png or tiff file. The maximize compatibility box will ensure you'll at least be able to open the file even if some layers don't come through.

If you are a student, you can get it much cheaper. There are a few slight differences in the Student/Academic Version - (it doesn't come with the stock photography) but nothing different about the actual program. It is around $280.
