Adobe photoshop learning?

Hi, is it really hard to learn and work in adobe photoshop the newest versions out these days which is cs3? Or is it perfectly smooth and fast learning with books and some training videos? Note: The person asking this is not a college student or have any experience in coding or graphic design.
