When I save an image as jpg/tif to my desktop it's fine. Then when I close Adobe and open the jpg/tif on my desktop the image is much more blurred, lacking in color and looks nothing like the image did when it was in photoshop. I need to figure this out for my portfolio. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your problem is most likely that your image is much smaller than the settings of your monitor. For instance, if your image is 640 x 480 pixels and your monitor is set to 1048 x 736 then it is trying to enlarge it far more than it is capable of being enlarged. So use larger images AND don't save as a jpeg but use bmp instead. During hte bmp save, check the 24-bit. Even an image the size of my above example will look good or at least a lot better.

When you save as a jpg you degrade the quality of gradients and transparency etc. If you save it as a png file the quality will be much higher.
