i have a project to do and its to make a poster (28 inches in width, 22 inches in height). My question is how do i divide the poster up on adobe into sections that are the size of a regular sheet of paper (8.5 x 11)? I have adobe photoshop cs btw...

Dividing a large image into 8 pieces is not going to make for a very nice poster. I suggest you create the poster at your required size, 8400 px by 6600 pixels, save to a disk and take to Staples for printing, full size, one sheet of paper.
BTW, I have no relationship or interests with Staples.
