for someone who makes a living from visiualisation (or is supposed to do so anyway) it is not the brightest Q. but what are the fundamental differences between image ready and photoshop?

I love these programs!! I use them on my website CreatingFunImages.com
Photoshop is more focused on the editing of the photo itself, or editing the layers to be used as frames when making an animated graphic. You then transfer it over to image ready to animate, set the frame speed and tell it how to save it.

Image ready is pretty much worthless compared to Photoshop.
Imageready's sole purpose is to quickly edit photographs.
Photoshop is much more useful in rendering, drawing, editing, creating....
Well... normally when you design... you use at least two basic programs... if you are using adobe then you will have to use Illustrator (or InDesing if you are more into design for magazines or so...) and Photoshop... however I use another programs that are not from Adobe... i use Draw and PhotoPaint from Corel... the also have a 30 day trial... so u can try them... and see what it works for u the most...
ImageReady is supposed to be a sort of 'quick-fix' editor for images that will be put on websites. PhotoShop is for the hardcore editing.
You use Image Ready whenever you are ready to create an animation.
